Bianca

Description (detail)

An intensely colored and elegantly structured white wine. It seduces with exotic aromas, followed by spicy fruit flavors on the palate and a full body with harmonious residual sweetness.

Bianca is a fine accompaniment to asparagus and mushroom dishes as well as fish.

Thanks to many years of pioneering work with resistant varieties, the Baumann family can practically do without pesticides completely and a particularly rich variety of flora and fauna develops in and around the vines!

Bianca is a fungus-resistant grape variety bred in Hungary and is considered a rarity in Switzerland.

Our story

What connects us with this winery...

Our employee Augusto often works at the Diroso winery in his free time and he introduced us to it. We admire the Baumann family's great commitment to sustainability in dealing with flora and fauna and we can particularly recommend their white PIWI wines to you.

DIROSO Winery

As winegrowers, the Baumann family works in and with nature all year round. Sustainability in dealing with flora and fauna is therefore a top priority for them and the DIROSO winery is setting new standards in Valais in terms of winegrowing that is suitable for grandchildren.

The almost 4 hectares of vineyards are planted with grass and they do not use weedkillers. The traditional vines are only treated with organic products. They are also the driving force in Valais when it comes to natural viticulture with fungus-resistant grape varieties. These relatively unknown grape varieties allow them to produce organic grapes without the use of pesticides.

Since September 2019, the brothers Diego and Roman have been managing the company in the second generation. They are actively supported on site by Nina Baumann-Salzmann. Sonja Geoffray-Baumann is on hand to advise on oenological matters. She is also responsible for our fantastic label designs. Hans-Peter & Irene Baumann have - after twenty intensive years of development - taken their well-deserved retirement and are now taking it a little easier, but are still indispensable to the family business.

Incidentally, the company name was created back in 1989 and combines the first letters of the three siblings Diego, Roman & Sonja.

«Grape varieties with resistance properties»

PIWI wines are made from grapes of fungus-resistant grape varieties. These forward-looking varieties were created by crossing European noble varieties with American original vines, which have a natural resistance to fungal diseases. PIWI vines are - like all traditional grape varieties - the result of conventional cross-breeding and have nothing to do with genetic engineering. For several decades, «PIWI's» have been bred at various viticultural institutes in Europe, selected and released for cultivation if they are well suited.

In the traditional wine-growing canton of Valais, people did not want to know about fungus-resistant grape varieties for a long time. In the last few years, interest in these robust varieties has also increased on the part of Valais winegrowers, so that now PIWI vines are also increasingly being cultivated in our canton. We are curious to see how the development of PIWI wines in Valais will continue...
