Pinot Noir «Pradec» 2018

Description (detail)

The 2018 Pinot Noir Pradec is a single-vineyard selection from the terroir of the same name near Sierre. Dark wild berries, red fruits and eucalyptus combine with subtle spice and a delicate hint of barrique. On the palate, it displays structure and freshness, with pronounced, now-matured tannins and lovely length. Barrique ageing lends it additional depth without overshadowing its Pinot elegance. Having matured in a magnum, the 2018 vintage is now a particularly exciting bottle for lovers of mature Valais Pinots.

A Word from the Winemaker

Here’s what the Mercier family has to say about this wine

The Pradec holds special significance for Madeleine Mercier: “The Pradec Pinot Noir was the first wine I produced myself – a single-vineyard selection that I aged in barriques.”

Our story

What connects us with this winery...

Denis Mercier SA

The eight-hectare vineyard with more than 50 plots around the town of Sierre was founded in 1982. The vines are mainly located in two places: Pradec, around the castle of Mercier, and Goubing, near our cellar.

Our soils are clayey and calcareous, dry and deep. For many years, the surface of the soil has been covered with natural vegetation. The entire vineyard is cultivated in an environmentally friendly way as far as possible. Caring for nature is very important to us.

The top priority for the production of quality grapes is to reduce the quantity of grapes, if necessary, right from the start in order to achieve a maximum of concentrated aromas. Each grape variety needs its own acclimatization in a given environment in order to develop its personal organoleptic potential.

The grape harvest from our plots is excellent. Our oenologist devotes her care to fermentation management in order to specifically highlight the authenticity of each terroir. The work in the wine cellar and in the vines is carried out with great sensitivity. The full aroma of individual wines is achieved by ageing in barriques.

A visit to our estate is much more than just a tasting. It is a pleasure and a moment of exchange.
Come and discover our treasures.

Pinot Noir

«King of the red wines»

Pinot Noir is by far the most widespread variety in Valais. It originated in Burgundy and was introduced by the State Council in 1848. It was introduced in 1848 by the State Council, which wanted to give a new impetus to winegrowing in the Valais, which was undergoing a fundamental transformation at the time. It found its second home on the calcareous and magnesium-rich soils of the Valais.

The Pinot Noir, precocious and equally resistant to heat and cold, is popular in the Valais. It produces wines of very different expressions, which is favoured by the great diversity of terroirs in the Valais. It can be drunk young, but age gives it dignity, nobility and distinction.
