The rare Swiss red wine "Galotta" is made from the grape variety of the same name and is carefully cultivated into a peppery, spicy wine with juicy tannins.

Its somewhat impetuous palate structure gives Galotta an unmistakable character and allows this dark red wine to shine in its best form, especially when paired with autumnal game specialties or juicy lamb dishes.

Our story

What connects us with this winery...

Our employee Augusto often works at the Diroso winery in his free time and he introduced us to it. We admire the Baumann family's great commitment to sustainability in dealing with flora and fauna and we can particularly recommend their white PIWI wines to you.

DIROSO Winery

As winegrowers, the Baumann family works in and with nature all year round. Sustainability in dealing with flora and fauna is therefore a top priority for them and the DIROSO winery is setting new standards in Valais in terms of winegrowing that is suitable for grandchildren.

The almost 4 hectares of vineyards are planted with grass and they do not use weedkillers. The traditional vines are only treated with organic products. They are also the driving force in Valais when it comes to natural viticulture with fungus-resistant grape varieties. These relatively unknown grape varieties allow them to produce organic grapes without the use of pesticides.

Since September 2019, the brothers Diego and Roman have been managing the company in the second generation. They are actively supported on site by Nina Baumann-Salzmann. Sonja Geoffray-Baumann is on hand to advise on oenological matters. She is also responsible for our fantastic label designs. Hans-Peter & Irene Baumann have - after twenty intensive years of development - taken their well-deserved retirement and are now taking it a little easier, but are still indispensable to the family business.

Incidentally, the company name was created back in 1989 and combines the first letters of the three siblings Diego, Roman & Sonja.

Galotta

«Wines produced exclusively in Switzerland»

Galotta is a new blue variety from Switzerland. The crossing of the Gamay and Ancellotta varieties was achieved in 1981 at the Swiss Federal Research Station for Crop Production (Agroscope RAC Changins) in Pully. From 1995 onwards, large-scale field trials were carried out in vineyards in Valais, Vaud and Ticino. Galotta has been included in the statistics of Swiss viticulture since the 2005 vintage. The area under Galotta has increased to over 13 hectares in recent years, but although already cultivated throughout Switzerland, it is still a rarity.

Galotta produces fruity wines with intense aromas of red berries. The wine is concentrated and rich in fine yet racy tannins. Galotta is often used for blends.
