Merlot Cyrano

Description (detail)

This Merlot is a veritable bundle of energy with a concentrated, profound bouquet of red berries, violets and an irresistible hint of incense. Its complexity and depth are evident on the palate, where it is voluminous and perfectly interwoven with healthy tannins and ripe berry fruit. A Merlot with lots of character that flatters the palate and promises long ageing potential. The mineral melt and long, echoing finish make this Valais Merlot a real gem.

Wine & Art

Robert Taramarcaz thanks his parents Nicole and Louis for the idea of combining the name of the muses with the winery, allowing him to regularly connect the wonderful world of wine with his other passions, particularly art and theatre.

For several years now, a ‘Festival of the Muses’ has been held every late summer at the foot of the Pintset hills in Granges. The aim is to present the wines of the Domaine des Muses from an artistic perspective over a weekend in the midst of the vineyards.

Domaine des Muses

The Domaine des Muses was founded in 1992 by Nicole and Louis Taramarcaz. Ten years later, their son Robert, who had studied at the Jules Guyot University in Dijon, Burgundy, joined the family winery. Since 2002, he has managed the viticulture and oenology work on the family estate with the valuable help of his parents and today with the support of his wife Nicole. Over the past fifteen years, every Domaine des Muses wine has won numerous outstanding awards in Switzerland and abroad.

Robert Taramarcaz is a brilliant winemaker. With his two top lines "Tradition" and "Réserve", he delights wine enthusiasts far beyond our borders. Local grape varieties such as Cornalin, Humagne Rouge for the reds and Humagne Blanche, Petite Arvine and Heida for the whites are treated with the utmost care - both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

Robert prefers a cool, elegant style and his wines always impress with their low alcohol content. This results in wines that are invigorating and easy to drink, without any opulence. The wines are therefore less dominated by wood, as Robert ages them for longer. His expertise, recognized throughout the country, is now appreciated far beyond our borders since David Schilknecht came to visit unannounced and eleven grape varieties from the Domaine des Muses were mentioned in the Parker Guide's "Best Of 2012". The reception of the Master of Wines Julia Harding for the "Selection 2015" of the English critic Jancis Robinson has also given this family winery in Valais an international dimension. These two awards are considered firsts for Swiss wines.

Merlot

«The classic red wine grape par excellence»

The red grape variety probably originates from France; it was first mentioned in documents in the 14th century. Its full name is Merlot Noir, but it is not directly related to the white Merlot Blanc. The name is derived from the French word for blackbird (merle), because these birds like to nibble the early ripening berries. It probably comes from a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and another Cabernet variety.

Merlot is the third most widely grown grape variety in France and the most widely grown in the Bordeaux region. In the French region of Pomerol, one of the best and most expensive red wines in the world is made from it, Château Pétrus.

Merlot belongs to the Cabernet family and is supported by smooth, silky tannins. However, it has less tannin, lower acidity and less longevity than Cabernet wines, but a higher alcohol level. Merlot owes its success to its beautiful, dark robe with a violet hue, its vinous character and its aromas of wild berries and chocolate.
