More about the wine cellar

Cave L'Orpailleur

Together with his brother David, Frédéric Dumoulin continues the journey that their parents Madeleine and Germain began in 1959 with enthusiasm and respect. Understanding where you come from in order to know where you are going, the pioneering spirit of the previous generation animates and motivates our two prospectors every day.

As self-pressers, they produce wines from grapes grown on their own 28 hectares of vines. This guarantees careful and quality-oriented care and cultivation of each plot. The uncompromising winemaking technique and appropriate cellar equipment contribute to the good reputation of Orpailleur wines. Skin maceration, temperature control, careful ageing, our own bottling - here, technology is at the service of the terroir. The team spirit, good humor and love of work give the wine that certain something. That is why L'Orpailleur is a competent team, dynamic, welded together, guided by the idea of giving pleasure to themselves and the world. Since then, L'Orpailleur has won many awards and medals, as well as the hearts and palates of a loyal clientele. The family spirit and passion for wine are a legacy that will be nurtured and passed on to future generations. Or as Frédéric Dumoulin puts it: "Wine is a medicine for the soul. Available without a prescription, it makes life more pleasant and improves people."

Sauvignon Blanc

«It's so green»

Sauvignon Blanc is the world's second most important white grape after Chardonnay. Its home is the Loire Valley in the world-famous appellations of Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé with a fine flint aroma. Another well-known wine is Sauternes, which combines Sauvignon Blanc with Sémillon. The vine is also widespread in most European wine-growing countries as well as in overseas countries. New Zealand, where the "Cloudy Bay" has almost become a cult wine, has also become a style leader for international Sauvignon Blanc.

The aroma is an interplay between exotic fruit and vegetal aromas, resulting in a fresh wine with idiosyncratic, piquant blackcurrant and gooseberry aromas, often also "green" notes (freshly mown grass) and an inimitable mineral tone with a supporting acid structure. No other white variety better embodies the growing global demand for aromatic and fresh white wines. Sauvignon Blanc has taken the palates of countless white wine fans by storm, because the wines are tremendously intense and almost universally usable, as a soloist or as a food companion.
